How To Play

  • Guess letters to find three words. Two down and one across.
  • Reveal three connected words: two vertical and one horizontal.
  • The words intersect at shared letters and are closely related in meaning.
  • Guess one letter at a time. Correct letters appear wherever they occur.
  • You may make up to 6 wrong guesses.
  • After the game, select the answer word to see its meaning

Origins

WordLinks is a pet project that originated in 2022 to encourage my daughter to learn the meanings of her assigned spelling words. Inspired by the classic word game hangman, WordLinks adds a twist by incorporating intersecting words as synonym clues for the other words, challenging players to think a bit harder.

The early versions of WordLinks were played on paper, and then transformed into an online game. At the end of each game, the word meaning is displayed. This educational aspect of the game is a fundamental component to encourage learning the word meanings.

Realising that grown-ups also enjoy word games and the popularisation of the concept of the daily puzzle by Wordle, I decided to incorporate the concept into WordLinks and package it up into a free online game. The intention behind WordLinks is to provide enjoyment, exercise your brain, and perhaps introduce players to new words.
